1. Do Not Trespass! Always ask permission to conduct an investigation on private property. If the area is marked with "no trespassing" signs, note the name on them and ask that person. If the area is not marked, ask neighbors if they know who owns the land/property. Make every attempt to find out who owns the land...explain to them the reason you want to be on their property. Tell them you will not vandalize or destroy the property. If they say no.. Accept that answer and move on.
2. Keep a clear head. Absolutely no drinking or use of any controlled substance.
3. No Smoking! Smoke can be photographed and it can be mistaken for a paranormal mist.
4. Be respectful to the Spirits. Ask their permission to be there and take pictures. Explain to them that you are not there to be disrespectful, but to understand and possibly help them.
5. Don't wear cologne or perfume, it could be mistaken for a paranormal smell, or cause you not to notice one.
6. Always bring extra batteries. Spirit activity can cause batteries to go dead.
7. No Horseplay or loud obnoxious behavior. Be respectful in cemeteries and buildings. Remember you are out there to record paranormal activity.
8. Do not take photos in the rain, snow, fog, or other adverse weather conditions.
9. When taking a picture in cold weather, hold your breath, this will prevent your breath from looking like a paranormal mist in the picture.
10. Never go Ghost Hunting alone. Safety is the issue!
11. Either wear the camera strap around your neck, or remove it from the camera. Keep hair tied back and fingers away from the lens. All these can cause ghostly images in the photos.
12. Keep you camera/video recorder lens clean. Dust on the lens can look like orbs
13. Don't photograph reflective surfaces. Road signs, cars, water, street lights, windows, and mirrors to name a few. All can cause abnormal photos.
14. Don't take photos when walking or driving down a dirt road. Dust looks amazingly like orbs.
15. Note the moon phases, and solar weather.(can be seen on the Paranormal Weather page) These conditions can have an effect on Spirit activity.
16. Don't think everything you hear or see is paranormal in nature. Look for all possible explanations, natural or otherwise.
17. Keep an open mind! Skeptics can bring negative energy into an investigation that could compromise it. If you come to a ghost hunt thinking you wont see anything ghostly, and expressing this in every other sentence, you certainly wont see anything and you are ruining it for everyone else that's there.
18. Make sure you bring your ID. (drivers license, etc.) so if you are questioned by the police you can prove who you are.
19. The best times are from 9 pm to 6 am, these are the psychic hours, but anytime can produce results.
20. Find out all you can about the history of the locale. Newspapers, town historians, WWW and books can be helpful finding folklore or hard facts about the site. Web pages dealing with this type of info are enormous.
